Performance Testing was always a part of Software Testing whether explicitly stated or not. The world of software testing is becoming smarter and mature. With the changing landscape of Computing and a paradigm Industry wise shift towards SOA/web based applications has brought a forefront focus on Performance Testing and the expectations saught from this kind of testing are measurable numbers. I have tried to extract the entire essence in terms of minimal words which could serve the purpose to cut-short the learning time. Performance Testing is about to measure the performance of an application under test whether the application is an embedded, desktop or a distributed enterprise application. However, these are the enterprise based applications/architectures where lies the prime focus of performance testing. Expectations saught from AUT is to measure the performance numbers and ensuring that it conforms to the expectations.

For those of you who frequent this blog or use Anue products, you are very aware of the importance of testing against the real world network before deploying on it. The following is a great guest post discussing how and why to test new converged applications before rolling out to the production network.
The best way to actually complete the tests with the highest level of accuracy is to use a Network Emulator that can capture and replay actual conditions from your unique network environment.

Network Emulation is an important technique that service providers, enterprises, and network equipment manufacturers should employ for predeployment testing in a lab environment. By applying proven scientific methodologies, businesses can stand to save a great deal of money and time versus deploying blindly and reacting as problems arise.

Continuing our end of year review of the various predictions from IT and networking thought leaders, today we turn our attention to IDC. For those of us who have been in high tech since the early 90s (or longer), IDC is a well-known entity. I remember working with them directly back in my days of fab planning and market research at Advanced Micro Devices, and they always offered a spin that made me take pause when interpreting trends and new developments.

This week we will enjoy a major holiday here in the USA, Thanksgiving. This tradition originated in the earliest days of our country’s existence, and we still take pause once each year to celebrate all of the good things that life has placed before us. While this is most certainly a time to enjoy family and be together, we want to take a brief moment to express gratitude as a company for the good things that have befallen us in the past year.

This week we take a hiatus from our Security-focused theme to turn to Network Emulation. Enjoy this guest post by Brad Whittington.
Sometimes you just have to use the right word. You know, like when people say, “I could care less,” when they really mean, “I couldn’t care less.” ‘Cause if you could care less, that means you care some amount more than zero. But if you couldn’t care less, it means you care zero, ’cause you can’t care less than that.
