Extended Burst Protection

Feature Benefits

  • Increase monitoring coverage by providing monitoring tools with access to more data during network traffic spikes
  • Eliminate dropped packets while aggregating from multiple network access points during traffic bursts

Challenge

With the large volume of data traversing today's complex networks, bursts of traffic have become a regular occurrence. When bursts cause the traffic stream to exceed the usable bandwidth of the input port on your monitoring tools, network visibility will be compromised and packets will be dropped.

As enterprises worldwide continue to upgrade network links to 10G, 1G tools become more susceptible to this problem. The effective impact of traffic bursts results in "blind spots" in your network monitoring coverage.

Solution

Extended Burst Protection on the Anue Net Tool OptimizerTM (NTO) removes risk from the monitoring equation. When traffic exceeds the usable bandwidth of a monitoring tool's input port, this feature buffers packets into a queue in the NTO. Once the bandwidth frees up on the port, the NTO distributes the traffic to the tool at full line rate.

This process reduces the risk of dropping packets due to a lack of bandwidth at the port. Microbursts ensure your monitoring tools achieve maximum monitoring capacity during network spikes.
