Feature Benefits:
- Intelligently and simultaneously distribute network traffic to several monitoring tools
- Fully utilize network monitoring tool bandwidth by optimizing link throughput
- Boost efficiency of monitoring by load balancing across common appliances
Challenge:
Constantly fluctuating network traffic volumes can create several problems with monitoring tools. Specifically, network traffic spikes can lead to monitoring tool oversubscription, creating blind spots that slow or prevent remediation of critical network outages and performance problems. To get around this situation, many enterprises often deploy several duplicate monitoring tools for redundancy and availability purposes. Since traffic spikes are the exception and not the rule, redundant tools sit idle or operate at minimal utilization levels more often than not.
Solution:
The Net Tool OptimizerTM includes load balancing, which helps you pool similar monitoring appliances together into a load balanced group. You can then specify how you want network traffic distributed to each tool.
For example, you can pool together three 1G web monitors, and then direct up to 3G of traffic to the pool for distribution across the three tools. If one of the three appliances goes down, the NTO will automatically redistribute the load to the two remaining tools. Load balancing provides for a more resilient monitoring solution and extends your existing monitoring capabilities without adding incremental monitoring devices.
