Maximize Network Tool Utilization

Monitor 10G / 10GbE Traffic with 1G / 1GbE Tools

Challenge

Upgrading to a 10G network backbone is bliss to say the least, but what about all of the 1G monitoring tools that are already deployed in your current network infrastructure? Your IDS, sniffer, packet analysis and data recorder tools – all still 1G – need to fit into your new 10G network.

Solution

The advanced filtering technology, designed into the Anue Net Tool OptimizerTM (NTO), filters 10G network traffic down to 1G. Network engineers can select from a number of Layer 2/ 3 / 4 filtering parameters including options such as VLAN, Ethertype, IP Protocol, DSCP/ECN, and L4 Port. By selecting the most tightly defined filter parameters, you can monitor new 10G links with existing 1G tools.

Load balancing provides another mechanism to ensure that you capture all of the necessary data from your high-speed 10G network. For example, if you have three 1G data recorders on your network, you can configure the NTO to filter the critical network information and equally distribute 1G bandwidth to each of the three data recorders, with sessions routed in tandem to keep them intact. This defers the need to purchase expensive 10G monitoring tools and maximizes monitoring tool utilization.
